Deka is the core battery brand of East Penn Manufacturing, one of the very few US battery manufacturers still operating today. Started in 1946 in Pennsylvania's Maxatawny Township by father and son DeLight E. Breidegam Sr. and Jr., the name "Deka" comes from combining "DeLight" and "Karl" (Karl Gasche being their first engineering hire).
